Sunday, December 07. 2008Ice try 2 Notice the reflections, and semi-transparency of the ice. It's looks more like ice now. I'm pretty happy about this one now. If anyone has any ideas for the remaining towers (wind, water, electricity, poison), I'm all ears. Remember, this is medieval themed. And there has to be six stages. I like the ice tower levels 1, 4, 5 and 6, but 2 and 3 aren't that great. In my opinion.
And for the other towers, here are two of my ideas: Electric Tower: 1 - A metal stick on a platform. 2 - Two metal sticks on a platform. 3 - Electricity runs between the two sticks, like the way it looks now. 4-6 - Gradually turns into something like this: http://www.belshe.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/09/WindowsLiveWriter/GooglesElectricBillEnergyEfficientPCs_12419/electricity%5B3%5D.jpg Water: 1 - Small fountain. 2 - Medium size fountain. 3 - Big fountain. 4 - Big fountain with small statue on top. 5 - Big fountain with big statue on top. 6 - Big fountain with big statue on top and multiple water levels.
Thanks for the comments. I relooked at #2 and #3, and I think you are partially right. I think I'll add 3 short spikes to #3 at the very least. #2 actually looks really good when it is animated, and I might leave it alone.
I like the ideas for water. I had never thought of a statue. I jotted down some notes during a particularly long meeting this morning. I'll see how it goes. 1. water pool 2. pool, with a small fountain. 3. pool, with a large fountain. 4. pool, with large fountain, and two smaller ones. 5. statue in pool 6. statue in pool, with a circle of jumping streams around edge of pool The electricity idea tho... this is supposed to be medieval. I don't remember power lines back then.  I am going to use the single stick idea. What I have in mind is:1. single stick with electric arcs towards the base. 2. double sticks with electric arcs moving up (like it is now) 3. double sticks, in a glass ball, platform slightly raised. 4. single stick again, but it is now a plasma ball, platform raised to the final height. 5. tesla coil, so the ball is now metal, and arcs are all over 6. same thing, but with electric arcs running in a circle around the base I'm keeping the theme where a level 6 tower has a round circle (consisting of something) around the base. wind... I'm not sure. But it will involve a windmill and the tornado. I'm not sure if the tornado or the windmill will be final, as I really like the windmill...
Chad these are kickass! These are best you've done yet, nice nice work bro! Also, and maybe this is just me, but i dont think i ever built one ice tower for any challenge or map. Im not sure how, but can you maybe make them more useful? Maybe other people think they have a good use but i can't seem to find them effecient enough. Besides that bro the ice tower graphics are your best yet no doubt!
Ya, ice is pretty useless as it is. We've discussed this before. I think the damage will be upgraded some (it actually hits fairly hard as it is now). The duration may be increased. And it will get a "flavor", possibly the chance of hitting as an area-of-effect.
Ice was supposed to be a key tower in "Big Boss Challenge", but that level turned out different when I added gems and bombs. btw, the BBC level is a blast and doesn't really play like a tower defense game. Play it if you haven't already! Maybe when I add the "hard" mode, bosses will require ice towers. We'll see.
Right on Chad! Yeah i've played so many, i loved the swarm challenge that was awesome! I need to play BBC. I think I will today!
It is great to hear about the forthcoming zoomability ... My fingers often seem to find the wrong tower or the wrong place to put it. Here is a minor control suggestion: I'd really like to be able to place towers while paused. You might even combine the speed and pause buttons into one that displays a 0-9 slider.

Unfortunately, the new design has pause/menu combined. And the internal workings won't allow someone to build towers while it is paused.
