Okay, so... here it is. Let me know what you think, and if there is anything I can do to improve it.
Note that the numbers (lives, score, etc) will have an icon next to each for what it is. I just ran out of time tonight. I've also spent the past two days fixing several bugs (including a real nasty one that would prevent the game from relaunching) and working on the fire tower.

Looks good man. I like the stone feel of it better than the stained glass version.
Well, this is the stained glass. But instead of trying to render it in 3ds max, I used some photoshop techniques. It did come out a bit lighter, but I wanted to capture the sunlight aspect of it.
I liked the stained glass better, but this one is also very good, cant wait for the update.
I like the changes you have done so far. Will the bottom textures of the map also be improved?
In the future, yes. But not for this update. The background graphics may look a little better only because of the way the graphics are handled internally. Especially where there is transparency. In my quest, I discovered that Apple's PNG compressor was throwing out a bunch of transparency information, which was causing the areas of darkness for the blending textures. The game no longer uses PNG so the problem fixed itself.
The interface looks great! However, one critique, the score, gold, lives remaining, and wave number are not very medieval. I think they are okay, but you should maybe think about displaying in a medieval way. I will ponder that or if anyone else has a suggestion.
Yes, you are on to something there. I'll at least try a medieval font.
Niiice! I didn't think I'd like it at first, but it looks really great!
Badass Mr. Chad! This is lookin sick!
Sorry to disagree with everyone, but I actually liked the old icon interface better than this one. Not that I think this one is terrible, I just liked having the pictures of the actual towers themselves rather than a drawing of them. I also liked how all of the information you needed (lives, wave, gold, score) was in one spot in the old interface. In one quick glance you could see everything you wanted. I'm not sure if I like having addition stuff ontop of the playing screen. I think it clutters it.
I definitively see your point. I didn't like the idea of the money/gold being on the play field, but most people did.
It should be possible for me to include both interfaces, and the user can select which one they want. Of course, the actual tower interface might be overlaid on "plain" glass windows... meaning the look will be updated. But it will be in the old format where everything is to the right. It is just a matter of a few additional graphics and some coordinate jockeying.
Thats a really good idea. It would be really cool if people could choose which interface to use. Im not aware of any other TD game that has that ability. Good thinking.
hey chad, I agree with rwtoner, I actually like the original better. this one is not bad, it's mostly the stats that are on the screen..
and I also second dustin's point. I too am a graphic designer, and I agree with what he said. However, if changing it will take more time, I think you should just leave it (for now). I think I speak for almost everyone when I say we are itching to play this. I am a perfectionist as well, so I know that you want a more complete product, but I think it would be better if you just finished up what you've got now, and get it out. (after beta, of course) as always, thanks, and keep it up, bro.
Yes. My main goal right now is to release the beta. The interface will be worked on while people are testing.
So, as a graphic designer, I have a few comments. First the shading on each button makes each icon look more dimensional, like the icon is on a slight spherical surface, which I think takes away from the stained glass look you were going for.
I also thing the buttons and also the icons on the buttons should pop a little more, so they are more distinguishable from each other. For the buttons, changing the gold lines around it to be darker might help each button stand on its own. On the icons you might try a double pixel black line around the outline of the whole icon to really make that icons shape stand out. Some of the icons (especially clouds) are kind of lost due to lack of contrast. I have to agree with the guy above that the stain glass might be hurting more than helping on this. Hope this helps - love the game and really looking forward to the update.
Looking good, you're definitely coming along now. Only two comments:
1) Stained glass looks good, definitely a unique touch, only change I would make would be to pump up the saturation and contrast. They're somewhat muted now, and I'd rather see them glowing brightly as if the sun was behind them. A side benefit is it makes them easier to distinguish, I mocked it up in Photoshop quickly and found it vastly improved. 2) I love the numbers on the playing field, but once you add the icons to them I'd rather the text was just white. The garish colors look tacky. Don't worry about a "medieval" font, keep it legible and clear. Looking forward to seeing it in action!
The garish colors were just testing. I literally spent 30 seconds placing them there. I was thinking white with a slight blue tint.
Hi Chad,
We would love to review your game and put up some strategies and tips on our site: http://www.iPhoneStrategyGames.com -JJ
Hi, Bought the game and was enjoying it til 'heavy metal' so will watch your walkthrough.
I don't understand this blog though, are these updates to the ipod game or are you making a computer game? If it is updates to ipod game, then they look awesome I hope you make an easy and normal game mode, also on the game main menu, when I go on statistics, I can only go forward in the book, I can't go back, will you be adding the ability to turn the page back?
This is the iPhone/iPod Touch game. The screenshots I display are snapshots from the computer I develop on, that is all.
The three things you've mentioned are on my to-do list. Heavy Metal will be nerfed for the upcoming update. The easy mode will be later update. The page flipping might make it.
Great, Will update be out this month? I tried using your walkthrough but they get through at level 10:'(
It will take as long as it takes. I am shooting for submitting in about 1.5 weeks, but it all depends on what the beta testers find.
Hi, You know where you've put the things inthe 4 corners of game screen, won't this get in the way of maps where you need that place to put towers down? IT might make them hard to see, also the color on the ice icon could be a bit stronger? Hopefully this update will boost your sales
I've been on the fence about purchasing. If I buy now, will this update be free, or should I wait for Besiegement II?
Thanks!
It is most definitely free.
and you should most definitely buy it. it's the best game on the iPhone.
